We can lose teeth for a number of reasons. Whether it’s through severe gum disease, dental decay or injury, it’s always best to replace the missing tooth or teeth. Having a gap in your smile not only can affect self-confidence, but can impact your overall oral health. A full smile is always better than an incomplete one.
Dental implants offer the next best thing to natural teeth. If you have a single missing tooth, we can use an implant in place of the tooth and then have a custom-made crown crafted to fix on top. It will look exactly like your other natural teeth and will last a life-time if looked after well.
If you have more than one missing tooth, we can create a bridge to fit on one or more implants. A bridge consists of more than one false tooth.
What is involved in the treatment?
As with all implant treatment, we first start with a consultation where you can have the chance to talk through the treatment with one of our dentists. Our implant consultations are completely free.
We will need to assess your suitability for the implant treatment as you will need to have sufficient jaw bone for the implant to fuse properly. If you don’t, we can offer bone grafting to replenish the lost bone volume.
Having an implant takes a few appointments. The first stage is the fitting which is where we place the implant into your jaw bone using local anaesthetic. We provide a temporary bridge to protect the area. It will take a few months for the implant to fuse to the bone properly. Once this has happened, we’ll invite you back so we can expose the top of the implant. We allow time for this to heal before taking scans for the restoration. These scans are sent to the lab where your crown or bridge is made. Again, we provide a temporary restoration.
When your crown or bridge is complete, we will invite you back for the fitting. We’ll talk through how best to look after your new tooth or teeth.
