When you first come to see us, we will want to get to know the person behind the smile. That involves a medical check questionnaire as well as a form where we’ll need some information about you. We’ll need to know a bit about your medical history in case you have any conditions or issues that will affect your oral health.
We’ll then invite you through to the surgery to meet your dentist and their team. The main part of your new patient consultation will be a thorough examination where your dentist will assess the health of your teeth, gums, soft tissues and jaw. During this check-up, we’ll be on the look-out for any signs of decay and gum disease. If we see any problems, we can factor these into your treatment plan going forward.
We’ll also take x-rays to get precise picture of your complete oral health. We take digital x-rays which we keep on file and will always talk your through what we see on the x-ray if we find any problems.
We’ll chat through your oral hygiene routine at home and give any guidance on brushing techniques and interdental cleaning. We can offer diet advice as well.
Once we’ve finished, we can arrange for your next appointment. Most patients have their routine examinations every six months, but we may see you every twelve. If you need any other treatment, we can arrange the next steps for you.
